Treasuers in the Teich

One of the perks of this lovely old house we're renting, is that there was an abandoned Teich (pond) in the backyard that we've slowly been resurrecting. It was boarded over by the last tenants to keep their toddlers from falling in.

Last summer we opened and cleaned it and bought a number of nice flowering plants for it. A friend brought over some special snails that help keep the water clean. I wonder if she's also responsible for the cool new inhabitants we discovered today: a lovely little family of aquatic salamanders have moved in. I counted four. Several attempts to photograph them below the surface, amongst the stones and water fern, with my iPhone were futile, so you'll have to just imagine how cute they are while admiring my sprightly little fountain :)

I love the gurgling sound the fountain makes and really enjoy having a few moments in the afternoon sun to sit outside and listen and look at all the beautiful life emerging within and around the pool. Oh happy Spring.... finally arrived!
