A view from Jeanneb

A day at the seaside.

We have has a great day out at the seaside. Made for the East coast of Yorkshire after a very busy coffee morning at church. Ad went first to Chris's favourite Runswick Bay where we had lunch and a walk in and around the cliff side houses.

Then on to Whitby which was full of seaside fun seekers on this lovely sunny day. It was very pleasant but still a little cool but there are always those Brits who have to strip off to skimpy summer clothes at the first sign of sun, they must have been frozen!

Here we have a rather strange angle shot of Captain Cook, complete with seagull on his head, against that lovely blue sky. Whitby is of course where her started his career as a mariner and where four of his boats were built including Resolution, Endeavour and Discovery. This statue is a tribute to the building of these ships and has plaques from Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Having so recently seen some of the sights of his arrival and exploration of New Zealand this statue, which I have seen many times, had an added interest on this visit.

This is his view across Whitby harbour to,St Mary's church and the Abbey of St Hilda beyond

We could clearly see some of the recent erosion created by last year's exceptional rain that is now threatening some of the harbour side houses and St Mary's church above. Here.

Great day out.
