drag rat

if you aren't from austin, or if you've never spent much time here, this probably won't make much sense.

---

the street that runs north/south along the western border of the UT austin campus is called guadalupe. more affectionately known as "the drag." it's home to ever-changing storefronts (nothing lasts long there, and if it does, well, it's the exception) and a very specific kind of homeless person - a drag rat.

that probably seems cruel or harsh, pretty horrible nickname, right? well, it's a different group. they're younger, more mobile, harking back to old school hobo days. they tend to look like appalachian trail hikers in their last few days. except they're particularly aggressive, sometimes violent, a little unhinged.

i don't have a problem with drag rats - they're mostly harmless. but i thought this piece of street art - regardless of its origin - to be an interesting reflection.
