Juvenile

A quiet Saturday.  After a leisurely coffee and croissant breakfast sat in the garden to finish my book.  Gripping read.  Now to decide what to read next, something calmer or pacey.

First time in a while used the oven to bake a chocolate and banana loaf cake.  With rising fuel bills am going to have to consider batch baking and freezing.  Already been investigating a wider use of my slow cooker.  Just after washing up the cake paraphernalia i spotted something unusual on the bird feeder.
Quickly grabbed my camera and shot quickly before it flitted.  A juvenile goldfinch.  Occasionally an adult pair appear in spring or autumn but its encouraging to see a juvenile.

This morning while reading a young squirrel was calling as it moved along the length of next door's garden.  Haven't heard the sparrowhawk for a few days but have heard jays but not seen them.  Also a wren has been walking along the boundary fence with our neighbour several times. Often occurs while I'm sitting at the kitchen table.  It's rare to see it being so nonchalant when usually we only hear its song.
It's been a relaxing day.
Pleasant evening everyone.
