The last harvest...

...of 2022? This morning we had our first frost of autumn. Considering that in previous years I've scraped thick frost from the car in August, getting to mid October  before a slight whiteness appears on the deck is quite a change.
I let this natural signal tell me it was time to pick the last of blackberries from the side of the house. These late ripening ones are not as delicious as the August September examples but they are precious because they are are the last of the fresh berries that we've been eating daily since the start of July when the honeyberry first ripened.
Soon it will be time to start getting the breakfast berries from the freezer!
It's now nearly 9 o'clock in the evening and I just moved three pots of flowers inside because I reckon we'll be getting the second frost tonight. Most of the plants have to take their chances but these few flowers we'll try to preserve a little longer.
Even if brings frost it's still lovely to have bright sunny days. We wandered down to the lake today and disturbed around 75 Canada geese busy feeding up in the field. As we got closer they stopped feeding, all started marching slowly towards the water, and finally flapped into the air and flew  in formation 50 meters into the lake. I wonder how long they'll stay with us before heading south?
All evening I've been listening to "The Little Unsaid", as recommended by Earthdreamer. Amazing energy and variety in their music.
