Charity

It's cold; it's wet; it's dark; it's grim. I'm not sure this place could ever have had any claim to elegance, it's an ironic eyesore these days. It has been immortalised in a poem by Ruth Pradel called Mill Wheel at Bantry which describes the journey of the flow of the millstream
... this pour-down of spark froth entering town
by way of the burying ground, run under it all;
under Vickery's and the famine graves,
under the boarded up House of Elegance,
the fire station and the two roomed museum
offering memorabilia of marytrs, butter making,
caring for sheep... reports of sea wrecks...

So it's damp too!! I think it needs all the charity it can get.

I was in Bantry trying to find something suitable for a wedding I'm going to in a fortnight - the theme is vintage! There are two interesting secondhand clothing shops - posher than charity shops; one was closed and the other had nothing particularly suitable. Panic may be setting in shortly and I fear trip to Cork city may be necessary.
