On Death Row

This is all that remains of a yellow tulip which had withstood subzero temperatures for 3 weeks along with its colourful companions but is now on death row and on the way to the bin. In the event of there being nothing else in the can, it has acquired eternal internet fame.

This part of central Edinburgh remains green and devoid of snow although the chill is great and any damp  pavements are suspect even though they have been gritted.
I was not taking risks and took the bus to Morningside to return a library book before sheltering in a cafe for warmth and a chance to read a paper.

The gas man has finally arrived to strip and reseal the boiler as required for warranty and I am hugging a hot water bottle as doors are opened and closed letting in even colder air than is resident in the house anyway. The radio is warning of inches of snow due to fall overnight. It feels as though there is collusion between the continuing freezing temperatures and the profiteers of the energy companies.
