The second half of life..

Frosty........!!

It was cold again this morning - very cold by our standards!

Now I realise that all you blippers from Canada are probably scoffing at us south seas softies thinking that minus 2 degrees is cold, and you'd be right to scoff. Compared to your cold, minus 2 is almost tropical! However, what you may not realise is that the average kiwi house is built for summer comfort, not winter warmth.

My house? Well, it's old and wooden, and although it has been insulated now, it's essentially an ice box in the winter. Heat pumps and central heating simply don't get a look in in an old cottage like mine so I suffer the cold......with the emphasis on suffer!! The payoff of course, is that the colder the nights the warmer the days. Once the sun is up and pumping some heat down to us the days are generally beautiful - easily warm enough to sit outside and enjoy a sunny corner somewhere.

I'm not a big fan of the cold as you can probably tell - not even a small one in fact! On mornings like this morning becoming a hibernating dormouse has a lot of appeal.

Maybe in my next life huh?

Squeak :)
