Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2023 Thursday — California’s Flower

Just a few weeks ago we purchased some California poppies. The nursery people explained to us that the “wild” version of the plant is somewhat different than the “garden dept variety” of the plant.

The wild plant doesn’t need as much watering because it is more drought tolerant. The “gardening dept variety” needs plenty of watering as the plant is getting established in the flower bed. I’m hoping these are getting established. I think they look healthy. We are a little over a week from our departure for SoCal and we’ll be there for several weeks.

Day 5 -- Thursday, May 4, 2023
Anniversary Celebrating:

We’re celebrating because “We’d do it all over again”! As Mr. Fun & I near our next wedding anniversary, we are enjoying a month of celebrating each day. We have never regretted celebrating, but we have regretted not celebrating!

Years ago on our 45th Wedding Anniversary we recited our wedding vows (again) at St. Michael’s By the Sea in the old wooden chapel in Carlsbad, CA, my Grammie Teele’s church. It was just the two of us; no family, no friends. After our vow renewal, the two of us went to an elegant restaurant, "Three Thirty-Three," just across from the Oceanside pier. We watched the sun fall into the sea and the pier light-up for the night. We ate entirely too much food; we spent too much money; and we had more than enough fun. We'd do it all again.

I don't know yet what we will do on May 29th this year for our 58th anniversary, but what we did for the fifth day of celebrating this anniversary month was after my BSF study group ended in Morro Bay Mr. Fun & I had Street Tacos for lunch at Taco de Mexico. No sun descending to the ocean; no pier, but enormous comfort eating with the person who has been a witness to my life more than any other person.

In our lives -- "two are better than one" -- has been immensely true. We're big fans of marriage--because it's worked for us. We do know that marriage isn't for everyone. We agree, though, with Steve & Cokie Roberts who have so aptly expressed in their book about marriage, "We are better people together than we are separately." So yes, we’d do it all again.

That’s it for today,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
