Cwm Pennant

This morning I met up with Karen and Paula at Cwm Pennant, a very beautiful valley north of Porthmadog. It wasn't easy to find where we needed to be but we got there in the end. It took a lot of uphill work to get to the old slate workings and there were some parts we didn't get to see because the instructions in our book weren't very clear. My main blip is an abandoned building in an area of slate workings. As you can see, nature is reclaiming the stoutly built cottage. A blackbird sized bird caught our attention which wasn't singing like a blackbird. Paula could see it had a white band on its neck, a Ring Ouzel.

Later we moved on to Cwmystradlyn for the Pont-y-pandy slate mill which stands proudly atop a hill, looking more like a cathedral than a place for machining low quality slate. I liked a shot I took as we approached it and have included it as an extra. The second extra is across a stream flowing beside it with a view towards a derelict barn.

Plenty of choice of dereliction so I'll tag it for DerelictSunday hosted by Marlieske
