Now, as I see it......

Carry On up the Kali Strata

I won't claim the title is original; it's stolen from a book title by an ex-pat author we know who has lived here since 1996 (I notice on the link that he comes highly recommended by Anne Zouroudi, who is the 'Shirley Valentine' author I mentioned yesterday).

We are alternating days on the beach with other activities so today was another walk starting down the Kali Strata, the 500 step street down to the harbour.  This ruin is probably one of the most photographed on Symi; the most grand of all the Merchants houses and which, at the back, has a prime position overlooking the harbour.  When we first came here you could wander inside but it's now padlocked.  Ownership of all the properties stays with the original owner or descendants and as so many people emigrated in the early 20th century there's a good chance the present owner doesn't even know of it.  There are lots of people who would just love to restore it.

I've added extras; another Kali Strata house that I've blipped before and which has decayed a little further in the intervening eight years.  A view down the Kali Strata; the house with the fig trees growing out of it has the top middle door in my doors collage a few days ago, and a Cricket that greeted us as we left the apartment this morning.  At least this one has both back legs unlike the one we saw a few days ago with only one that was doing some spectacular spinning jumps.
