Having occasion to venture to foreign parts this morning, I can report that Sunshine on Leith there was not; in fact it was decidedly chilly with an invisible blanket of cold clammy air coming ashore from the NorthSea.

Getting across Edinburgh in a car is not for the feint hearted or for a good natured relationship with a better half, who happens to be the driver.

Still we survived the trip and the visit to the opticians at Asda where we both spotted glasses we would like, the better to see with.
All that remains is to find time to go back for eye test appointments.
We will go by bus.

Home for coffee with daughter#2, in town to appeal a place for her 5 year old in an oversubscribed school in her catchment area when she returns this summer to the big smoke from the rural idyll of Loch Rannoch .

His older sisters have already been allocated places, and who will no doubt find it difficult to adapt to a school with 90 in each year group as opposed to 30 in the whole village school they attend at the moment.

It's looking very unlikely that the sun umbrella will be unfurled this afternoon; the sun has not won the war against the haar today.
