The Lozarithm Lens

The Woodland Garden (Saturday 25th November 2023)

Pentax cameras have a unique mode called TAv whereby the shutter and aperture are manually set and the camera sets the sensitivity. I have experimented with it occasionally but haven't quite got the hang of it, which may explain the slightly odd result of post-processed corrections to a flawed RAW file. This another cotoneaster image but of a different kind of tree to Tuesday's.

In other news, apart from being immersed in the recordings of the Beatles and the Mamas and the Papas this week I have also bought a new gadget: an air fryer, all the rage I gather, and used for the first time on Saturday. So far I have tried Gastro chips, sausages and proper baked potatoes, all with total success. Baked potatoes need far too long in an oven to suit the patience of a Gemini. It would mean thinking ahead! Microwaved they are fine but a different beast entirely, and it had never occurred to me to attempt them in a mini-oven, and if I had they would still have taken longer to cook than in the air fryer, so I am very happy with the results so far. It is named Emma.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Beatles - Hey Bulldog (2023 Remix) (recorded 11 February 1968, EMI Studios, Abbey Rd)
Having bought the Red album it was almost compulsory to buy its companion Blue album The Beatles 1967-1970, although it turns out all but seven of the tracks are of previously released mixes from between 2015 and 2022, which means few of them benefit from the MAL technology and none of the others are new to my collection. The USP of the new edition of course is the inclusion of previously unreleased 'new' Beatles song Now And Then, gradually recorded over forty-five years in three distinct sets of sessions by all four former Beatles, but never all of them together. I wonder if any other single has ever been recorded over such a long period of time?
Hey Bulldog is one of two new remixes on CD2, and one of the tracks newly added to the compilation. It was something of a throwaway, needed contractually for the soundtrack of the animated 1969 film Yellow Submarine, but was obviously a lot of fun in the studio to make. As it hadn't been remixed since the 1999 Yellow Submarine Songtrack album it gets the full Giles Martin treatment here.

(I have now added and written up all LOTD entries up to this blip)

Flower Friday
(Coincidentally this is the very same cotoneaster. I suppose there's not much colour in the garden at this time of year)
