The snowy mountains of the Puketeraki Range make for a rather nice background against the barren ruggedness of winter down by the river. Plenty of birds by the river today, terns, herons, shags, banded dotterels and a few New Zealand Pipit on the waters edge.

A day of sunshine and calm although there was a freshness in the cool air and a very frosty start to the day.
