A Meandering Life...

MMC2024 :: Day 23 :: The Dales

Mono Month Challenge 2024

We had a bit of a trip out today and ended up in Hawes for lunch. Our route took us from Northallerton, through Catterick Garrison and over the army ranges to Reeth. Then we followed the River Swale on the northern side through the hamlets of Gunnerside (my main Blip) and Muker then over Buttertubs into Hawes.

When I stopped as we approached Gunnerside it was starting to sleet, you may just make it out in the image. On the top of Buttertubs there was a dusting of snow on some of the hillsides. We had more sun during our trip than rain.

Whilst we were in Hawes a RAF Airbus A400M Atlas transporter plane flew over (see extra). I later checked it out on FlightRadar and found it had come up from Brize Norton via Norfolk and after visiting Swale Dale it continued up as far as Carlisle, circled the Lakes, travelled over Wales then around Dartmoor before heading back to Brize Norton, a trip taking about 4 1/2hrs.

I wonder where they stopped off for lunch..?
