Panorama from Gap Road

What a gorgeous day to be out on the always beautiful Banks Peninsula. Today my kindly chauffeur was someone I've been looking forward to meeting all week, fellow blipper Daring2Go.

We did a quick (well, 5 hours - that's quick isn't it?) circuit from here in Kaituna to Pigeon Bay via Pettigrews Rd, back up along the Summit Road to Hilltop then down to Little River for a spot of lunch. After chatting (and sharing a table with) some genial iron men doing some cycle training, we then headed up to the top of Kinloch Rd , then on to Gap Rd via Bossu Road. It is at this intersection that this broad sweeping panorama was captured.

The views today were simply stunning, as you can see. After we made out way down the hill on Gap Road, past the Devil's Gap (from which the road gained it's name) we noticed that at the road's end there was a clear view across Kaitorete Spit, Lake Ellesmere, and the Alps right through to Mount Cook. A rare sight from this part of the peninsula.

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day, and I look forward to enjoying Jillian's company again soon (hopefully next time without my crutches!). Thanks J, you were amazing :-)

As an aside this is the largest original image I have uploaded to Blipfoto. The original stitched pano is a massive 48 Megapixel file - printed at 100dpi on a wide format printer it would measure over 3.5m across.... With that in mind, it might be best viewed large...
