Solace Day 5

It was time to face the river section again today. Apparently the C&RT had declared it closed just after we came down and opened it again yesterday. This is the problem of sharing or hiring a narrowboat, you have to ensure you can get back to the marina for the next user of the boat. The warning was yellow today but we knew we had to drive against the current of the Trent at full throttle. Much relief as we got through without being swept onto the guard rope above the weir.

I needed some shopping today so we moored at Alrewas. It's a nice village with pubs, a café, a Co-op and a butcher. We took the opportunity so stop for coffee and cake.

This is a view over the canal bridge to where our boat is moored. The-B-I-L has stopped to chat to a local. You can see two branches of the Trent beyond the canal.
