Panama Canal

The 50 mile Panama Canal goes from the Caribbean to the Pacific Ocean - it takes 8 - 10 hours to sail through it!  We took it all in from the Miraflores Locks which are about half an hour outside the city.  We watched this huge ship for about 45 minutes slowly making its way through the lock.

The idea and ambition of a canal was eventually realised in 1914 after several failed attempts. Today more than 14,000 vessels pass through it every year - around 5% of global trade.

It was Mister F's 60th birthday today!
