Morecambe

A much brighter start to the day. Washing up from last night done, bed put away then friends came round to decide what we should do today.

Decided: K & D are always up for a walk so we gave them a head start for their 5 mile walk into Morecambe along the sea front before they hived off and went through parts of the town where we met them at the station car park. They needed sustenance after their walk so we looked for somewhere to eat and came upon The Midland Hotel, famous for its Art Deco style. The outside needs a little attention, but inside it remains sophisticated and quite glamorous. We sat out in the covered sun terrace with magnificent views over the bay and enjoyed a light lunch. My double cooked goats cheese and spinach soufflé was glorious. Then we all went for another walk along the Prom where we were propelled by a vicious wind. We passed by the Venus and Cupid Sculpture (subtitled: "Love, The most beautiful of Absolute Disasters") where it sits on Morecambe Promenade overlooking the Bay. Designed by A. Johnstone in 2005, the sculpture celebrates motherhood and heartbreak. The statue was installed in 2005 and its theme resonated with the tragedy of the 24 Cocklers who died in the Bay the previous year. *


K is on dinner duty this evening, she's a super cook so it will be delicious whatever she makes. At some point we'll decide what we might do tomorrow.
