Steam and snow

Iceland day 4 - the last day of our all too short trip to Iceland was much more relaxing.

A leisurely breakfast was followed by a wander around Reykjavík before we had a visit to a photography studio and had our portraits taken in full Viking dress. Someone had recommended this to us and it did not disappoint. We had great fun and the results were superb. The photographer not only took our pictures but told us lots about Icelandic life in the first settlement years, dress, weaponry, religion and traditions. We also chatted lots about cultural connections with the northern isles.

Afterwards we enjoyed an excellent lunch at a nearby bistro. Don’t believe anything you hear about Iceland food not being good we found it to be great, very contemporary. Beer’s not cheap but there are some very tasty local brews.

Our last stop was a visit to the Sky Lagoon for a long soak in very hot water outside. A wonderful if slightly odd experience. The bathing part was great but the very luxurious spa style surroundings weren’t really our thing and we were a bit freaked out by being in a big pot of human soup with lots of people taking endless photos of themselves and talking loudly. Glad we did it though as the water was beautiful and melted away the aching muscles of the last few days adventures. Magically it started to snow and we managed to find a quiet space to enjoy floating in hot water as snow fell around us. The pic was taken as we left the building by which point the snow was falling fast. It was a great way to end to our holiday.
