Moraea setosa

A South African plant that grows from a small corm.  A few stiff grassy leaves over the winter and then in spring a narrow stem pushes up and branches, the tips swelling slightly and suddenly there are flowers.  Flowers which open late morning and shrivel away by nightfall.  Ephemeral.  Each corm produces multiple flowers over about a week, today's were the third crop but the first that I have actually seen!   The stems are around six inches tall, each flower about an inch across.   Little gems.

A five hour shift in Kings Cafe, a sit down, a dog walk and an evening at pottery.  Lots of things of mine in the latest bisque firing so I will have plenty of glazing to fill my spare time for a while.  A quiet day off planned tomorrow before a weekend at work in the shop,
