The Pensioner

Walking back from Maria’s

The cockneys have arrived. We know them all: Clive and his missus Jan. Pat and old Mick. Their three grown up children are here too as it’s one them’s fiftieth. Oh and Dave and his missus don’t know her name. You can hear them all cackling away together from afar without understanding a word. A mercy.
I did sneak away briefly to watch the second arf of the west am game. See, I can talk that too.
And a new book by that Peter Hennessy chap. Clever clever chap. Having it So Good: Britain in the Fifties. Only 751 pages. I may pick it up again next time we’re back. Time to pack.
