Saturday: Butcher’s Shop

It’s been a pleasant day.  We started off by going shopping and running a few errands.  Shopping here is really interesting as you can’t get everything in one shop so you have to plan your route.  As Belmopan is tiny, that’s not hard to do. Our last stop was the butcher’s shop where we picked up a pork shoulder for later in the week and a couple of steaks for dinner tonight.

Buying the pork shoulder involved admiring half a pig and identifying the cut we wanted.  My grandfather was a butcher from the 1940s through to the 1980s and had a shop in Scotswood, in Newcastle.  He would have been absolutely fascinated to hear how it’s done here.

This evening we went out for a pre-dinner drink of ‘Wings And Feathers’.  It was excellent - they have an IPA on draft and it was a really pleasant atmosphere.  We then came back to eat at home.  To be honest, we never went to Corker’s for the food so I think we may have found an alternative.
