bonsai

Spent a lovely few hours walking the streets of Northbridge with S today.

A suburb in the heart of Perth, over millenium and more recent centuries it has been home to Aboriginal people and then a hub for migrant Greeks, Italians and Chinese and more recently Vitenamese and Lebanese (amongst others).
Covering just a few city blocks the architecture is wide and varied, shops and restaurants just as varied and it is also home to the Art Gallery, Museum and State Library.

Lunch was here at 'the bonsai restaurant and cafe lounge' housed in an old tin smelter and foundry and very settled in this cool, open space buidling it is.
So...wait for it...
we shared a japanese lunch --with a twist
chicken salad (julienned strips of very different salad goodies) with crispy wontons skins
salmon sashimi (salmon tartare in little boats of endive)
clams in a spicy salty broth
tempura soft shell crab and wasabi mayonnaise
wagyu beef
all washed down with sips of sake and green tea.

These were small-ish! dishes but as I am having lunch with S and R on Sunday which will be a feast of Burmese curries, I will be sipping hot water and lemon and nibbling on a lettuce leaf for the next 36 hours :)
