Beekeeping

After the market and a walk on Arnside Knot, Barbara wanted to have a look in the beehives with me. I explained that the queen was larger than the other bees but we probably wouldn’t see her, but the first thing Barbara said was “Oh is that the queen?”. And yes, it was ! She has very sharp eyes. The queen is usually surrounded by some attendants all looking after her as you can see here. I put a little green mark on her, to make her easy to spot when there are a whole lot more bees.
The hives are looking much better this week, all three have sprung into action so I have given them extra frames to start storing honey, if the weather stays good. I do Hope so!
