Harold Wilson and Old Town

Not quite such sunny weather today so we had foreseen this and had booked a golf buggy ( A Scilly Cart as it’s called!). We had a nice time going round all the roads on the island and visiting various bays including this one..Old Town beach.
Harold Wilson( 1916-1995) ..prime minister from 1964-70 and 1974-76 had a holiday home on the island and he is buried in the cemetery, along with his wife Gladys (1916-2018). Im sure he enjoyed getting away from politics in London.
The church is very small and they rarely hold services there anymore.

We also visited another garden which has preserved all the varieties of narcissi that have been grown on the islands, along with other plants and shrubs. Not as pristine as Tresco Gardens, looks like it needs some volunteers to do work there as it’s free to enter.
We saw all the little fields where narcissi are grown but they are over now. There were some wild gladioli and lots of wild garlic on the verges.
