Final images from our free day in Khiva ; the sublime and the ridiculous
I was awake early and went out to capture Khiva in the early morning light. It really was magical and very quiet, a few tourists like me and the street sweepers and cats.
Back to the hotel for a shower, breakfast and check out.
Then we walked the walls & met with a young man by chance ( wish I’d got his photo ) and joined his online English lesson so his students could hear our “ natural accents” and we could encourage them to work hard. Along the way we swapped thoughts about how best to learn English and Robin ‘Good’ found more fans for selfies: again wish I’d captured that!
Also visited the carpet workshop I’ve read about and silk ( sericulture ) museum whilst enjoying the beauty of Khiva for the final time.
A great lunch overlooking the square and then a taxi back to Urgench to get the night train to Tashkent although we only did a 6 hr train ride to Bukhara. Comfortable if dated sleeper car . Now in Bukhara; it’s 1am and we start a guided tour in the morning!
