Bhukara

Uzbekistan day 6
Bukhara is known as the Pearl of Uzbekistan because of its vast and sumptuous buildings.. madrasahs mosques , caravanserai, and trading domes.
After a short night ( we got into bed about 01:30 after our train trip ) we went on a 4 hour walking tour with Bekruza who never stopped sharing information and stories to bring Bukhara and its complicated history to life ( blame Genghis Khan and the Bolshevik for destroying large parts!)
The heat and light were fierce so we retreated back to the hotel mid afternoon.
As it cooled we set off to explore Bhukara by night .
Firstly we wandered into the Jewish quarter. Bhukara was home to a large population but now only about 200 remain. We were allowed to look in the synagogue . Then after dinner we wandered back to the Poi Kalyon Square to see it illuminated. Photo is the Kalyon Minar or Great Minaret.
The city was buzzing with families and tourists enjoying the warm evening. Like all of Uzbekistan so far, it feels incredibly safe and relaxed .
