African Bull Elephant, Pollok Park, Glasgow

Robert Coia is currently working on this oak sculpture at the water driven sawmill in Pollok Park. It is full size, and when finished will be sited near the Burrell Collection.

It is part of a commission by Glasgow City Council, to produce eleven timber sculptures for the Commonwealth Park Twinning Initiative for the Commonwealth Games here in Glasgow in 2014. The sculptures will be sited in eleven of the hub parks. I must start looking out for some of the others.

Today, I was back at the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre in Nitshill for Highlights of the Art Collection Tour. I did find it interesting, viewing works by Reubens, Martin, Edward Lear, Romney, Wilkie, Turner, Lowry, Lavery, Boudin, Sisley, Fra Newbery, Currie, Howson and Hughes. It was a bit of a whistle stop tour of Pod 4, with the briefest of looks at the chosen works. You do get a feel of the vastness of the Collection though. I think if I go again, I will aim at the specialist tours. I much prefer gaining more information about a few works, for example the tour last month on works by "The Four".
