The Streets of Rethymnon

As this is our last full day I wanted to make the most of it so I nagged everyone to get up really early and we headed into Rethymnon. We were parked just after 8am! I'd read about the wonderful colours and atmosphere of the open air market and wanted to get some photos......only the market is on Thursdays......oops!!!!

Instead we had a wander around the Old Town, the above street scene is typical of this area, pots of brightly coloured flowers and little pavement cafes mixed with small shops selling souvenirs such as soaps, tablecloths and ceramics.

Then we went for breakfast in a taverna overlooking the harbour, not sure it was actually open but as we'd sat at one of the outside tables they did serve us.

In an attempt to walk off breakfast we visited the Fortress, built in the late 16th Century by the Venetians. Many of the buildings are being restored and it was very hot so we didn't stay too long!!!

Now back at the villa for a few hours sunbathing and swimming.

Later we'll head back down to the coast and hopefully see a nice sunset before going to a taverna for dinner.

Oh.....and I guess I need to pack at some point too :((
