A Sign of the Times

There aren't many of these old road signs still around. The sight of them brings back memories of slow childhood car journeys north, crossing the Forth by ferry and wending our way up by Kinross and Glen Farg. There was the ever present smell of a mixture of petrol and leather. The journey to Newtonmore our holiday destination every year took all day, only punctuated by my brother and I falling out of opposite back doors to be car sick.
But at the journey's end, there was the heady smell of wood smoke mixed with clean Highland air, and we felt that we were in a parallel universe so different from the Lowlands. Now one can zip up the road in just over 2 hours and the magic is no longer there.
Still, childhood memories get rosier with age !
