Piping Live

Took the train into Glasgow today to see 'Piping Live'...... it seemed to be New Zealand Day. The bands started by playing at the Concert Hall, then down to Gordon Street, where they had a recital, and on to St. Enoch's Square, where they had their main performance.

We saw the Manawatu Scottish, the Canterbury Caledonian, and the St. Andrews College Pipe Band, all from New Zealand. The St. Andrews College Pipe Band lost their headquarters in the terrible earthquake, but seem to have survived intact and were beautifully turned out, my blip is of them. I liked the fact that Donald Dewar was overseeing the performance.

The last band we saw before we had to leave was a Scottish one the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, and like the others, they were terrific. We also had a brief glimpse of the George Watsons Pipe Band from Edinburgh, as they headed down to St. Enoch for their recital.

I wish them all good luck in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow Green on Saturday/Sunday..... may the best band win!!!!
