Taobh Tuath

First up, a walk out to the remains of a chapel and a broch; there are traces of human habitation back to Mesolithic times. I've no idea when that is, as there's no 3G or even mobile connectivity. What a great island this is. There are so many traces of a disappearing world - cute whitewashed cottages hosting art galleries and coffee shops. Increasingly it would appear that this traditional way of life is being replaced by crofting and fishing. Tragic, really.
At breakfast, the genial host (aren't they all) pointed out that something else well worth looking for was the great yellow bumble bee, now on the most threatened list. Alas, although I found others of the Bombus genus amongst the borage, the elusive B.distninguendus proved as, well, elusive as ever. Rather like the sun.
