Love

Wedding of my friend Lisa in Oxford

Probably the most magial wedding I have had the joy of attending

The venue was Alvescott Lodge which is a gorgeous lodge hidden up a leafy path with an old red phone box and red post box up the path: proper Ubiquitous England. It's a mix of old and new and is the epicentre of the Communication Workers' Union. The venue was opened by Tony Benn in 2009 and as Lisa and Stephen said, it represents what they as a couple are about: community, justice and equality.

The whole day was about the group as a whole and we were active in parts of the ceremony, presided over by a minister, although it was a none religious service, written by the couple.

Much of the day was crafted by guests: the bunting, the cakes, the photos and this delightful heart.

The heart *may *have acccidentally got tied to her bum ribbons later ( sorry, the ribbons on the bum part of the dress, she doesn't actually have ribbons on her bum) when someone else was left in charge of the heart....

The music was brilliant all day: no hymns but we sang along to U2 and The Specials instead. A live band at night made a fantastic alternative to a drunken DJ playing Hi Ho Silver Lining five million times... ( although when they covered Human League " Don't You Want Me Baby" and all the women got over enthused and knew it word for word, it was definitive proof that we were all over 40 )

Most of all it was all about the love. All you could feel was positive energy all day. As Lisa said in her speech " If you can't feel the love in the room you must be dead "

We were all very much alive and part of the magic.

Thank you Lisa and Stephen for allowing me to be part of your wonderful day. It was a pleasure.

This song will always make me think of You Two
