THE DAY STARTED ALRIGHT

the weather looked promising enough to plan a trip. In Brenkhausen we had to collect the repaired chair and why not choose a place where we could explore the unknown. I choose the Hasselbach im Schiesshäuser Tal near Holzminden and after that we could drive to Bevern where we could visit a castle with a long history behind it.
When Piet Hein went to buy bread for our trip, I stepped outside and saw an extraordinary creature flying above the buddlei, and she did make some loud noise too. From two different sides I took some pictures, surprised as I was.
I found out this was a macroglossom stellatarum, common in gardens, sipping on the geraniums etc. Now I certainly had never seen a butterfly like that.
She soon was tired of my presence and flew away. I lingered still hoping she would come back. She didn't.
But the comma butterfly appeared and she stayed quietly on the flowers.
For her reward I make her my blip.
We then drove to Holzminden and started a very pleasant walk along a brook, the Hassel brook. Many signs told us which animals lived there, wild cats, raccoons, fire salamanders and what birds flew around the brook, like Kingfishers and others.
None of these we saw.
But we saw many different and very beautiful mushrooms. Amazing!
We followed one path at the left side of the brook and returned at the right side.
Bevern was our next goal and we admired the Weserrenaissance castle, build at the beginning of the 17th century.
After World war II a major renovation had started.
Inside was an exhibition of portrait drawings and journals made by two French prisoners who were deported to Buchenwald and from there to the concentration camp Holzen. The portraits were all of the prsioners, and had been lost near Celle when at the end of the war the camp was evacuated by the germans.
A new drama awaited the prisoners when american bombings hit them in the trains, that was in april 1945. Many died then and many more on their way to another camp.
A woman who had found the 200 drawings of Camille Deletang and kept them at her home, eventually she handed them over and an exhibition was organised called: Rediscovered.
It wanders from one place to another.
From Bevern to Brenkhausen to catch the chair.
Now we are tired. Home, but tired.

My haiku:

See mushrooms appear
Under the aged trees colouring
Into magic yellow

And the proverb:

Vrijer en vrijster onder één dak, is een groot gemak

Translation: Sweethearts under one roof, is a big convenience.
