Desperately seeking

Unexplored Territory

A busy, working day for me today as we reached an area of double locks. These are fine at busy times of year as two boats use them together and keep each other steady, but there was very little activity on the canal today so I had to get out at every lock and hold the boad steady against the lock side.

By 2pm we had reached a section of the River Trent and were planning a trip up the Erewash Canal. Chippy had an amazing, no, interesting, scary experience taking the narrowboat against the current 315° to enter the mouth of the canal.

We were nervous about the Guide Book description of how only a devoted boater would venture up the Erewash. It was glorious! The water was so clear we could see the bottom of the canal and the plants growing in it.
