A Day in Delhi

Whew! A very warm and sticky night despite having the air conditioning on all night. Still, it was nice to be sleeping in a bed rather than on the plane and I only woke a couple of times to rearrange the sheet!

Breakfast at 7.30 where I met a few people who are also on the tour . . . . all either Australians or Kiwis!

After breakfast Frank (a hotel guest I met yesterday) and I were met by the tour guide who we'd arranged to drive us for the day. On the schedule were trips to New Delhi, Old Dehi, Lodi Park, the

Government Buildings, India Gate and Birla Mandir temple.

Wow!

Our driver was fantastic, taking the time to warn us about being ripped off, taking us to a 'better' market outlet to look round (I loved the rugs. . . . hmmmmm....temptation) waiting patiently whilst we explored, photographed and walked round in circles after getting lost!

This is the Lotus Temple, centre of the Bahai faith. As it was Sunday lots of people were out regaled in their Sunday finery and relaxing so the visitor numbers were high. The contrasts and colours as we walked down the long approach to the temple were wonderful . . . . . and what an amazing, architecturally stunning temple it was.

First full meeting of our tour group at 6.00pm was good - it seems like a good, varied mix of people.

And yes, everyone on the trip is either Australian or Kiwi!
