The Edge of the Wold

Gus of the Helm

Gus's high spirits are infectious, the best possible tonic to the sadness of the last couple of days. This was him on the Helm, waiting for Rowan to wriggle under the gate. It's been dawning on me recently that Gus doesn't forget anything. He's been on this route only once before, but he knew the gate was there before it was in sight, and ran on ahead to take up his position ready to shepherd Rowan through.

Rowan did show just a touch of irritation today with Gus constantly rounding him up, but they forgave each other quickly. I am still baffled by Gus's herding skills, he has all the right actions together with the working collie's intense focus on the task. Yet he directs it towards another collie like Rowan, while taking no interest whatsoever in the sheep that he spent his early years working with.

My apologies for such poor commenting recently when so many kind comments have been left on the Bob blip. I will try and catch up over the weekend.
