The Ropes of Maui

On the way to my Diamond Harbour Camera Club meeting tonight, I just had to stop at sunset point to grab this shot of crepuscular rays of sunlight over the lake.

Mrs H always refers to these as 'fingers of God' but I prefer the term 'The Ropes of Maui'. Somehow, it seems to be a more fitting name as we often see this atmospheric phenomena over Te Waihora, 'the spreading waters'.

In Maori mythology Maui ensnared the sun as to make the days longer, so that his people had more time to get their work done.

Worth a look large I reckon
