Respect

This is Thornapple (Datura stramonium), growing in a bit of waste land near the river in my village. They are the largest, and possibly the most striking, flowers I can remember seeing on a weed. The species was probably brought to the Mediterranean area for decoration, but has naturalised, and in fact I saw several others on the river bank itself.

This must be also a rare example of thoughtfulness on the part of the municipal workforce since they mowed the field but respectfully left this plant alone. The plant deserves respect since it is highly poisonous.
