Meal & Music Alfresco

This has been a marvelous Sunday!

This blip is getting posted late because we have had a lovely Concert Alfresco in the Park this evening--which included dinner. Well, not actually in the park. Our itty bitty church has a lovely piece of prime property with a park-like front lawn adorned with beautiful trees, so our music people wanted to end the summer by presenting a Sunday late afternoon concert outdoors. I hoped that I would be able to capture the essence of it for my blip friends. So the above is what I captured.

A variety of music was presented by four different groups. The first was "Skylight," a bunch of young guys from California Baptist University, which is just a few miles from us. Our college intern is good friends with them and invited them to join the musical line-up and they did (I didn't get a photo of them because I was eating dinner while listening and didn't put my fork down long enough to pick-up the camera--oops).

I did capture dozens of photos of the "Blackwood Jazz Combo," which includes Keith, our former church music director. He was playing the clarinet.

The morning praise team also lead a few songs.

Then the main attraction of the evening was "Servant's Heart," which is a band that got its initial start at our little church 5 years ago when they came together to lead music at a funeral. It was the funeral for Pam, the wife of the man who is now our church music director, George. Pam had died from cancer. George now plays guitar and sings lead and our former music director, Keith, plays saxophone, clarinet, keyboards, guitar, and sings in "Servant's Heart."

This evening was delightful celebration of the end of summer, especially for these 2 who love music. This was officially the last weekend before school starts for many teachers and students. Next weekend is a 3-day holiday weekend--Labor Day--here in the states, but for most, school starts before the holiday.

It is still quite hot here. Two firefighters have now lost their lives as Southern California still blazes with several wild fires.

We hope you all have a great last day of August, tomorrow.
