The Edge of the Wold

Autumn sunrise

This year Autumn seems to have been gradual and subdued for us. There hasn't been a big show of colour yet. Here we see one tree (an ash, I think) stripped of its leaves, while the oak has lost most of its foliage. Our Katsura tree coloured up in the space of a few days, then as quickly was blasted clean of its leaves, leaving the scent of burnt caramel pervading the front garden. The beech trees are yet to come, and my favourite tree on the Knott may yet weave its Autumn magic, particularly if we have some mists. I was hoping for a misty morning today with the atmosphere saturated with moisture, a cool clear night, and just a whisper of wind - but there was not a wisp.

Today was lovely and bright as the weatherman promised, a little spell of calm between the windy, wet days. I rushed home as the sun was going down, the sunset looked so promising, and the estuary half full of still water to reflect a coloured sky, but the sun fizzled out in the cloud above the horizon. Tomorrow, the rain returns.
