Harvesting

I headed up to Nelson late this morning to do some jobs for work. Passing by the paeony farm at Belgrove I noticed that there were people harvesting the buds. They harvest them when they are still closed so that they can be packed and flown to destinations around the world before they open.

The ones that are open here were the 'less than perfect' buds that they don't bother cutting. Apparently it is good for the plants to allow them to bear some flowers to full growth. They sure make the fields look pretty.

I have a lot of flowers in my house at the moment, ones that have been gratefully received from well-wishers. People have been so thoughtful.
