Uragh Stone Circle

We started the day by taking the very narrow undulating climb up to the Priests Leap, the road itself as dramatic as the scenery. From the top of the pass we headed down into Kenmare for essential coffee and cake before hitting the hills. We set out on the north coast of the Beara peninsular and into the Inchiquin Valley which is headed by a large waterfall, a number of lakes, and the stone circle of Uragh overlooking Lough Inchiquin.

Whichever vantage point was chosen there was an awesome backdrop of mountain and water. The ancient people who built this sacred site must have experienced the same sense of awe. We took a circular hike starting at the base of the waterfall, climbing up and around and eventually bringing us out above the falls, fed by water from Cummeanaloughan. We finished up following a delightful river path back to the car and then on to Kenmare for the evening.
