A rose

It was a lovely afternoon for a walk to the City Centre through the Vondelpark. This photo was taken at Emmaplein, a small square that is near one of the entrances to the park.

In 1936 a monument to Queen Emma (1858-1934) was installed in the square. Emma, a princess from the German principality of Waldeck-Pyrmont, was the very popular second wife of King William III and mother to Queen Wilhelmina.

Emmaplein is nicely landscaped with green space, pathways, trees and shrubs. This pretty rose was on one of the shrubs that bordered the square.
