Today's the day .......................... of the big record crash

We had a bit of an accident here - in the middle of the night.

A cabinet (Ladderax for those who know about that sort of thing) holding several hundred LPs and a turntable, became unstable and crashed to the floor. I'm pleased to tell you, however, that there were no fatalities and everything is recoverable - but it calls into question something much deeper ie. Should we have such a collection in our house in the first place?

We are both, of course, children of the 50s and so we grew up to music in the form of singles, EPs and LPs played on a record player. They played a big part in our lives as university students. But nowadays, in this age of digital technology, is there really still any place for such an antiquated, bulky and very heavy way to get your music fix?

Ah well, there is still something nice about holding an actual record in your hands, putting it on the turntable, managing to lower the needle on to it - and hearing it burst into life. Oh - and some of the LP covers are works of art, aren't they?

Does anybody out there have any idea what I'm talking about ..................??
