Houseboats

It was warm and sunny this morning so on our way to the gym, K and I paused briefly in the park across the canal from these houseboats. Approximately 2,400 families in Amsterdam live on houseboats in the canals, on the Amstel River and in former docklands. Some of the boats were specifically designed as homes, while others are converted ships, freighters and cargo vessels.

Freight traffic regularly passes this wide section of the canal where these homes are located. However, there is so much space that the houseboats are not disturbed. The park that we were in was very pretty so I imagine the view across the canal from the boats must be picturesque.
