Ordering a late present for Nicky to a more local shop would have resulted, according to the patchy information available on the internet, in an extra two days' wait, so I dragged the big one out to Hermiston Gait in a combination fresh air/exercise/present-retrieval thingby. I think he had a wee sleep on the way out along the NEPN and Broomhouse paths but during a similarly long period of silence on the way back along the canal he was simply silently watching the water go by, piping up when a boat appeared. Despite it not being a workday there were a few unhelpfully twattyfast numpties trying to race along the narrow slippy towpath, though not too many. At one point I was waiting for two groups of pedestrians and a jogger to sort themselves out before attempting to pass them and discovered the jogger to be an old colleague, last sighted at a bike shop sale about five years ago. Despite mostly looking at the water and boats Edgar managed to spot the playpark in the middle of Harrison Park and made clear his wish to visit it, which took us up until nearly teatime.

Eight days and two units later the present is going to be permanently returned. Don't bother with a Tesco Hudl tablet, despite recommendations for reasonable value at that price point and bonus usefulnesses like memory card slots - the touchscreen doesn't seem to be well-enough made.
