Sheet of ICE !!!

An inevitable disaster: After yesterday's inch of rain (over 2 cm), melted snow and resulting slush, the temperature plunged last night. It was 9° F (-13° C) as we awoke this morning. This sheet of ice covers the spacious area where we usually park our car. In large you'll see some interesting cracks in the clear ice over the walkway in the foreground.

Fortunately, Marylee had the brilliant idea to move the car yesterday afternoon down the driveway to near our front entrance (opposite the stairs you see here). There we had to contend with far less ice when we had to drive to the dentist this afternoon.

Temperatures are forecast to rise over the next few days, and some melting should begin by Friday or so. The car will stay parked in front at least till then. Here's another view of where it's usually parked--today's expanse of ice would be mostly out of view to the left.
