Music for gloomy winter

For several years now Ive been restoring the stained glass of the Old West Kirk in Greenock. The little church ,which sits on the Greenock Esplanade is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful churches in the country. It also has a fascinating past history as during the 1920's it was moved stone by stone from its original site in central Greenock to its current location....graveyards and all!
This was to make way for Harland and Wolff shipyards ,who needed the Kirk's riverside plot as the yard expanded in response to the war effort.
It also houses one of the best collections of Pre -Raphaelite stained glass anywhere in the UK,all the more satisfying as the glass is accessible to those who like to get up close and personal due to the intimate scale of the building.
As part of Absent Voices we will be using the church and its adjacent Pirie Hall to stage events and talks throughout 2014.
Sadly a decision was made late in 2013 to close the church ,which will happen later this year.
However , our group are putting a plan together for its continued use as a creative space ,hopefully for years to come.......
